While participants are most concerned with their ability to save enough money for retirement, they are dealing with a host of other immediate concerns, including the cost of housing, saving for emergencies and maintaining adequate healthcare.  Use this checklist with participants to uncover their concerns and provide customized resources to support them.

Setting aside an adequate amount of savings for retirement is not a reality for most participants as they are either living paycheck to paycheck or dealing with some other competing priority – most notably setting aside money for emergencies. Educate participants on how to make saving a part of their financial plan.

In the eyes of plan participants, the responsibility for retirement planning falls squarely on them, but they are likely to lean on their employer or someone else when it comes to choosing the appropriate investments. Share how partnering with an investment professional or a financial advisor can support a participant's financial planning goals.

Participants have taken positive steps to prepare for retirement. Half of them indicate they started saving for their retirement at an early age and over one-third acknowledge remaining invested during volatile market environments. Help participants understand how their investment decisions could have serious long-term implications for their retirement savings.

There are some gender disparities in terms of who is responsible for aspects of retirement planning, with females placing relatively more responsibility on their employers or other individuals. Help participants navigate a long-term investing strategy by understanding these guiding principles.
